Refund and Cancellation Policy

To cancel your participation in a MayX program after you have paid the deposit, notify the Rinker Center for Study Away and International Education in writing; email notification is acceptable. Please note that we cannot process your cancellation if you do not notify the Rinker Center directly, though we encourage you to email the faculty members leading your program out of courtesy. The Study Away Deposit is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

Updated 3/1/2020
Students withdrawing after  March 23, 2020 are liable for partial or full payment for the study away program in accordance with the following schedule:
  • Until March 23, 2020: the Study Away Deposit is the only penalty for withdrawing
  • March 1 – March 20: 50% of the cost of the program is owed to Furman
  • March 23 – April 9: 75% of the cost of the program is owed to Furman
  • April 10 – May 9: 100% of the cost of the program is owed to Furman
  • Students who have already paid off the MayX program balance may also withdraw before March 23 and be refunded all except the Study Away Deposit.
  • If Furman University must cancel a MayX program before it starts, students will get a full refund.
If a student is dismissed for misconduct (violation of Furman Student Conduct Code, host institution conduct code, host country laws, alcohol/drug abuse, etc), they will be responsible for the full cost of the program.

If a student does not receive his/her passport or other required travel documents in time to participate in the program, they are responsible for program expenses incurred on their behalf. The Rinker Center for Study will use its best efforts to help students understand the process for securing the necessary travel documents, but cannot guarantee a student will receive the travel documents before the start of the program.

Furman reserves the right to (1) to change the itinerary of a program and students agree to accept that modification or (2) to cancel a program, in which case students will receive a full refund.
