In 1995 Howest,University College West Flanders merged with six prominent institutions of higher education in Flanders to become a single Higher Education Institution. Today about 6000 full-time students are enrolled at Howest pursuing 23 Bachelors covering a wide range of disciplines. Howest consists of five campuses situated in Bruges, Kortrijk and Ostend.

Flanders is the northern, Dutch-speaking part of Belgium that borders on the North Sea. Exchange students will study at the Kortrijk campus. Kortrijk, known in French (and sometimes in English) as Courtrai, is a very dynamic town with about 75 thousand inhabitants, attracting shoppers from the wide surrounding areas to its cosy centre. It is also one of Greenville's Sister Cities!
