DUNEDIN New Zealand

The Ultimate Study Abroad Experience

Study abroad in Dunedin, known as New Zealand's college town, with a total population of 120,000 people, including 20,000 students. Dunedin is located on a beautiful harbor, renowned for its incredible wildlife, and only a few hours from Queenstown, considered by many as the adventure capital of the world - making this an ideal environment to study abroad for the outdoorsy student. Study abroad in Dunedin and find yourself sipping on great coffee in an eclectic city cafe, before heading off hiking or surfing only minutes from the city center. The combination of a student-centered town, with a great artsy vibe, combined with the accessibility to the incredible scenery and adventure activities of New Zealand's South Island, provides for an amazing study abroad semester or year in New Zealand.

Dunedin Program Highlights

  • Study abroad at the University of Otago, New Zealand's first university
  • Take advantage of our pre-semester trip to the beautiful islands of Fiji
  • Experience the Kiwi flatting experience, with accommodation in apartments and houses within minutes walk to campus
  • Take advantage of our mid-semester excursion options to New Zealand's adventure-packed South Island or the culture and beaches of Thailand
  • Live in Dunedin, New Zealand's unique college town, with the beauty and outdoor pursuits of the South Island at your fingertips
  • Feel the adrenaline rush during our Orientation Program where you are exposed not only to local culture but to New Zealand's love of extreme sports

"My experience studying at The University of Otago was a more enriching, thrilling, and overall life-changing experience than I ever could have imagined. This could not have been possible with the provided by TEAN, whose staff—both at home and abroad—was there every step of the way to facilitate the process. I embraced the affable, genuine Kiwi culture, while also growing as an individual as I learned to live on the opposite side of the world. I left New Zealand heartbroken to say goodbye, but also more fulfilled than ever by having my eyes opened to the adventure and excitement provided by a semester abroad."

Furman Financial Aid

Furman students are eligible to apply Federal and State Aid and Institutional Scholarships towards the cost of the program and must complete a Consortium Agreement in order to have their aid applied toward the semester cost of the study abroad program.

Furman's Application Process

Submit a study away application to Furman University by Furman’s application deadline. Applicants will meet with a representative from the Study Away office for an interview. Students for whom the program is a good fit will be accepted and pre-approved to apply directly to the program. Furman will send the affiliate program a list of names of students who are pre-approved. Once accepted by Furman, students will apply directly to the affiliate program.

Once accepted by the affiliate program, students must submit a Transfer Credit Authorization Form to the Registrar at Furman in order to be pre-approved to receive credit for classes taken abroad.  Please contact the Registrar at Furman if you have questions related to the form.
